MUSCAT — Oman’s Public Prosecution has issued a firm warning, stating that strict legal action will be taken against individuals who publish, share, or repost content online that offends other countries, their leaders, or their people, or that poses a threat to the Sultanate’s foreign relations.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the Public Prosecution urged the public to exercise high levels of awareness, practice responsible self-expression, and show restraint in their digital interactions—particularly across social media platforms. Authorities emphasized the importance of avoiding any conduct that could undermine diplomatic relations and mutual respect between Oman and other nations.
The prosecution clarified that legal measures apply not only to the original creators of offending material, but also to anyone who reposts, shares, incites, or engages in any related behavior criminalized under Omani law.
Authorities specifically cited Articles 20, 23, and 26 of the Cybercrime Law as the legal framework under which violators will be held accountable.
