Muscat- A travel agency based in Muscat has faced severe legal consequences following consumer complaints regarding unfulfilled holiday packages. According to the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), the agency has been ordered to suspend its operations for a full year.
The case stems from formal complaints filed by three consumers who had paid the agency to arrange complete international travel packages, which were supposed to include flights, hotel accommodations, and guided sightseeing tours. Instead of delivering the contracted services, the establishment abruptly cancelled the trips and failed to fulfill its obligations.
As a result of the investigation, the agency’s representative was handed a three-month prison sentence and total fines of RO 900 were levied. Both the agency and its representative were convicted of the misdemeanor of failing to provide a service properly and in a manner consistent with its nature, reinforcing the strict enforcement of consumer protection laws in Oman’s tourism and service sectors.
