MUSCAT — Oman Meteorology has issued a series of weather alerts warning of active winds, blowing dust, and thunderstorms affecting various parts of the Sultanate.
The unstable weather is driven by the formation of cumulus clouds over the Al Hajar Mountains, bringing scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and active descending winds.
Key details of the meteorological warnings include:
-
High-Severity Downdraft Winds: A severe alert has been issued for the northern regions of Al Buraimi and North Al Batinah Governorates, active from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.
-
Thunderstorms & Mountain Rains: Medium-severity alerts are in place for parts of the Al Hajar Mountains, adjacent areas, and parts of Dhofar Governorate, where limited rainfall, mist, and coastal drizzle are also anticipated between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm.
-
Active Winds & Rough Seas: Moderate wind warnings cover areas including Al Jazer, Duqm, Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Sadah, Shalim, the Hallaniyat Islands, Mahout, and Masirah from midday until late evening (12:00 pm to 11:00 pm).
-
Dust Storms & Reduced Visibility: Desert and open regions—specifically Adam, Al Mazyunah, Thumrait, Ibri, Muqshin, Haima, and sections of the Sultan Said Bin Taimur Road—face medium-severity dust storm alerts during the same timeframe, which may significantly lower horizontal visibility.
Authorities have urged motorists, residents, and travelers moving through open highways and mountainous zones to exercise extreme caution, stay alert to changing conditions, and follow official updates.
