Oman Announces Extended Weekend for Prophet’s Birthday Holiday
MUSCAT — Employees across Oman are set to enjoy a three-day weekend following the Council of Ministers’ official confirmation of the public holiday for the Prophet’s Birthday.
The holiday, designated for Thursday, August 27, will be followed immediately by the standard Friday and Saturday weekend, providing workers in both the public and private sectors with an extended break.
This announcement aligns with the government’s ongoing policy to pre-schedule national and religious public holidays at the beginning of each calendar year. The proactive approach is designed to boost institutional efficiency, streamline administrative planning, and allow both government bodies and private institutions to better organize their operational workflows.
According to the Ministry of Labour, providing advance notice helps organizations avoid operational disruptions and minimizes scheduling conflicts with local or international events. For entities requiring continuous operations during the holiday, regulations permit employees to work, provided they receive proper compensation or time off in lieu.
