Muscat : Oman’s national public transport operator, Mwasalat, has announced a major shift in its operations. Starting August 1, 2026, cash payments will no longer be accepted on any of its city bus routes in Muscat and Salalah.
Under this new policy, all passengers must use approved electronic payment methods to pay for their fares.
Mwasalat stated that the transition to a fully digital payment system is designed to streamline the boarding process and provide a faster, more convenient travel experience for commuters. The move also aligns with the company’s broader strategy to increase the adoption of digital solutions across its public transport network.
Passengers are advised to ensure they have the necessary electronic payment options ready before boarding, as the company will strictly enforce the cashless policy once it takes effect next month.
