MUSCAT: India has officially appointed Prashant Pise as its next Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman. The announcement was made by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as part of a strategic update to India’s diplomatic leadership in the region.

Pise, a seasoned diplomat from the 1995 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), is currently serving as an Additional Secretary within the MEA. In his recent role, he oversaw emigration policy and welfare-related matters, following a successful tenure as India’s Ambassador to Iraq.

Extensive Regional Expertise

The incoming ambassador brings a wealth of experience in Middle Eastern and North African affairs. His distinguished career includes previous diplomatic postings in:

  • Egypt

  • Libya

  • Tunisia

  • Iraq

Beyond the Arab world, Pise has also served in key roles in Japan, Mauritius, and the United Kingdom.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Pise’s appointment arrives at a pivotal moment for India-Oman relations. The two nations have been actively deepening their partnership across several critical sectors, including maritime security, energy, trade, and investment.

He is expected to arrive in Muscat and formally assume his new responsibilities shortly, succeeding the current envoy as India continues to prioritize its long-standing strategic and people-to-people ties with the Sultanate.
