Oman Suspends New Applications for Key Fishing Licenses

Muscat- The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman has announced the suspension of receiving applications for specific fishing licenses starting December 25, 2024.

 This decision affects individuals, companies, and institutions operating in the fisheries sector and follows the conclusion of the licensing application period on December 24, 2024.

The suspended licenses include:

Commercial fishing vessels using the enclosure and trawling system for small pelagic fish and tuna.

Commercial fishing vessels using nets for squid.

Coastal fishing vessels employing a fence system.

Coastal fishing vessels utilizing the line system.

The Ministry emphasized that any purchase or construction of fishing vessels without prior approval violates Article 58 of the Aquatic Life Wealth Law and its executive regulations. Violators will face legal accountability and are warned that the Ministry will not bear any financial consequences resulting from such actions.
