Oman CPA fines car agency RO 10,000 for warranty breach

Muscat- A car agency in Dhofar Governorate has been fined RO 10,000 and its representative sentenced to three months imprisonment for failing to repair a customer’s vehicle during the warranty period.

The ruling was issued by the Court of First Instance in Salalah following a complaint filed with the Directorate General of Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Dhofar Governorate.

The customer alleged that the vehicle he purchased from the agency developed defects during the warranty period and that the agency refused to repair or replace it.

After investigating the complaint, the court found the agency guilty of violating the Consumer Protection Law. The law states that service providers must guarantee their services for a reasonable period of time and repair or replace defective products.

In addition to the fine, the court sentenced the agency’s representative to three months in prison and imposed a RO 2,000 fine on the individual. The agency itself was fined RO 5,000, and ordered to compensate the affected consumer with RO 3,000 for damages caused by the delay in repairs, with the obligation to cover court expenses.

The Consumer Protection Authority calls upon all merchants and suppliers to abide by the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law, its executive regulations, and the decisions implementing it.
