Muscat – The Ministry of Labour has issued Ministerial Resolution No. 501/2024, which amends the regulations governing the practice of certain professions by non-Omani workers.
This new resolution updates Ministerial Resolution No. 235/2022, expanding the list of professions restricted to Omani nationals.
The revised list now includes a range of professions, from managerial roles to technical and specialized positions. Among the newly prohibited professions for non-Omanis are roles such as Systems Analyst, Engineer, and various positions within quality control, hotel management, and transportation.
The resolution, effective from the day following the date of its publication, also outlines phased implementation for certain professions:
- Professions like Systems Analyst and Information Systems Network Specialist will see the restrictions come into effect from January 1, 2025.
- Roles such as Computer Programmer and Computer Engineer will be restricted from January 1, 2026.
- Web Designer and Operations Analyst restrictions will apply from January 1, 2027.
