MUSCAT : Muscat Municipality is stepping up its efforts to ensure food safety, reaching consumers by issuing a new directive to replace manual knives with electric knives for cutting shawarma. This decision aims to eliminate the health risks associated with iron filings that can occur when sharpening regular knives.
The municipality’s initiative underscores its commitment to maintaining public health standards and preventing potential food contamination. By mandating electric knives, the authorities aim to protect consumers from the dangers of tiny metal fragments that may inadvertently mix with the meat during sharpening.
Restaurant owners have been given a three-month grace period to transition to electric knives, allowing ample time for compliance. Muscat Municipality hopes that all concerned establishments will cooperate fully in implementing this decision, recognizing its importance for public safety.
