MUSCAT: As part of ongoing efforts to boost tourism and create sustainable attractions, Dhofar has introduced several initiatives aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and promoting cultural heritage. One such initiative is the Al Baleed Beach project in the wilayat of Salalah.
Situated in Al Baleed Archaeological Park, the project serves as a recreational outlet for families of citizens, residents and visitors to Dhofar, particularly during khareef, which attracts a large number of tourists from within and outside Oman.
The beach project implemented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, features a 1,200m walkway on a suspension bridge and includes eight cafes and restaurants overlooking the sea.
Ali bin Salem al Kathiri, Director of Frankincense Land Sites at Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar, stated, “Based on the ministry’s commitment to leveraging heritage assets and empowering the local community, an investment agreement was signed with Royal International Company to activate this cultural heritage site, aiming to create a sustainable tourism project.”
Kathiri added that the project is expected to attract more visitors to the World Heritage Site, highlighting Omani heritage and culture. “This project is one of the strategic initiatives to promote tourism in the governorate and the site in particular.”
